(Washington, DC)- The DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative held their Winter members meeting at the National Building Museum on February 16.

The agenda included opening remarks by Chase Rynd, President, National Building Museum followed by a panel discussion on the Role of Arts Education in Building Community.

Panelists included, Darrell Ayers, Vice President of Education, The Kennedy Center; Samuel Xavier Carnegie, Creative Director for Theater Programs, National Museum of American History; Scott Kratz, Vice President of Education, National Building Museum; and Samantha Wyer, Director of Education, Shakespeare Theatre Company.

(Quote), said Louise Kennelly, Executive Director, DC Collaborative.

The panel was followed by a brief Q & A session with attendees, moderated by Lorraine Spiegler, Artistic Director of In-Studio Education, City Dance. The Q & A session allowed panelists and members to explore issues such as the intersection between national and local museums; funding and resources; and arts education advocacy.

During the meeting the DC Collaborative also presented a draft of our member mapping project at the meeting. The purpose of this project is to present a visual tool for our members to use not only for fundraising purposes but to indentify gaps in service in order to provide greater access to DC students. This project will eventually live online as an interactive tool.
