What is the New, Virtual Arts and Humanities for Every Student (AHFES) program?
To better serve DC students and teachers in this climate of distance/ hybrid learning, the DC Collaborative is making changes to better accommodate educator needs as well as the needs of our Providers. Please note that all Spring 2021 programs marketed, coordinated and hosted by the DC Collaborative’s AHFES program will be virtual and asynchronous only. Asynchronous programs may have a synchronous workshop component, to be scheduled by the AHFES Provider. The DC Collaborative will provide AHFES Providers with access to a school interest list which will automatically update.
Arts and Humanities for Every Student (AHFES)
Through the AHFES program, the DC Collaborative offers opportunities for all students in the DC Public Education system to take full advantage of the vast cultural resources available throughout the greater DC region. We believe that students attending high-quality arts and humanities events is an integral part of their education. Even in times of increased virtual learning, the Collaborative and its Members are committed to equity and ensuring that all students are accessing learning programs/ resources in the arts and humanities. AHFES Providers supply teachers with preparatory materials, adding further incentive to integrate the arts and humanities into their daily lessons. Engaging learning opportunities will be listed in our AHFES Online Catalogue (DCCollaborative.org/AHFES) and in our Distance Learning Resource Database.
AHFES Equitable Outreach Strategy
The DC Collaborative team, led by the School Partnerships Manager, stewards relationships with schools and markets experiences with an equity lens. Equity indicators and goals will be solidified as part of the communications plan: Title 1, Wards 7&8, High Schools. All programs featured on the Distance Learning Resource Database as part of the AHFES Spring Programs must be free of cost to school partners.
Note: Teaching Artist/ Practitioners and organizations whose budget falls below $250K may list synchronous activities that have a cost. Booking information will be provided on the Distance Learning Resource Database. Providers will manage the contact information and scheduling process and educators will contact them directly, (not through the Collaborative).
So... How Does the NEW, Virtual AHFES Work?
The DC Collaborative Team is issuing a new iteration of the AHFES for the Spring in response to educator and DCPS central office feedback. Due to the changing nature of the learning environment and the uncertainty around scheduling.
- Providers will complete the new AHFES program submission form (once for each program they wish to offer), detailing the program medium, content area, learning standards, and accessibility accommodations. Providers will also submit a direct link to their program and up to 10 documents directly into the form (example: learning guide, workbook, lesson plan).
- Once submitted, the DC Collaborative will construct a customizable page for the program on our Distance Learning Resource Database. The page will have all program resources submitted embedded onto the page (as well as a synchronous program submission form for educators, if requested).
- Program pages will be hidden from the database menu. Once educators request access to your resources listed in our catalogue, the DC Collaborative will provide them with the hidden link to engage in the content. This is done so that we can track the schools and number of students who are expected to engage in Providers programs.
Spring 2021 Program Timeline
- January 25 - DC Collaborative opens a Spring Virtual Programs submission form to Providers.
- February 22 - All programs to be included in the AHFES Spring Virtual Programs marketing are due from Providers.
- April 5 - June 25:
- DC Collaborative builds relationships with schools and markets programs through an equity lens.
- DC Collaborative delivers resources weekly based on educator requests in the AHFES Spring Programs access form
New! In response to the unprecedented economic challenges that many of us in the arts and humanities education community currently are facing, in particular independent contractors, during the changing climate of virtual and hybrid learning, the DC Collaborative is altering its Arts and Humanities for Every Student (AHFES) The Collaborative will charge a $100 listing fee per program on a “pay what you can” basis, to be invoiced per lottery. Included in this fee is the following services:
- Marketing and communications promoting Provider programs;
- Access to a contact list of educators who utilized the Distance Learning Resource Database materials.
- Survey collection and access to raw data sets
- Registrations through and outside of the lottery cycles;
The DC Collaborative will send listing fee invoices through our MemberClicks portal. Please note that, as of August, 2020, the DC Collaborative is only accepting credit/debit card payments through MemberClicks. At this time, we do not have the operating capacity and safety measures in place to process bank transfers, Bill.com payments, check payments, or any other payment methods. As a result, all programming invoices will be sent and paid via MemberClicks and will incur a 3% credit card processing fee -- the cost of doing business in this virtual landscape.
