Participants will discuss approaches to accommodating learning disabilities\, identify resources that enhance their teaching\, and gain tools for navigating the unpredictable with confidence and creativity. \nThe program is best suited for cultural professionals who have direct engagement with students. This may include teaching artists\, practitioners\, program managers\, educators\, etc. \nWorkshop dates and topics: \n\nJan 30 | 1 PM to 4 PM  – Foundations of the ABCDE of Learner Needs  and essential tools\nFeb 6 | 1 PM to 4 PM – Put it into practice\nApril 3 | 1 PM to 4 PM – Reflection and feedback\n\nParticipants will be compensated for their time with a $150 honorarium. \n\nPlease confirm your availability for workshop dates before registering. This inaugural event will feature the Old Time Cobras of the School of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park\, Maryland\, youth recording artists from the Crabshack Music recording studio roster in Del Rey\, Virginia\, and students from McKinley Technology High School in Northeast. Proceeding the performances will be a presentation from event partner\, DC Collaborative. \nAs the only organization researching the arts and humanities impact within D.C. Public Schools\, they will present current general disparities around accessibility to the arts and humanities for students. Other event partners include science-based music education organization Finding Rhythm and Chuck Levin’s Washington Music Center. DESCRIPTION:Learn More Here \nExhibition: ZSUDAYKA NZINGA: HOME COMING / HOME GOING\nJUNE 26-SEPTEMBER 26\, 2024\n$0 | Phillips@THEARC\n\n\n\n“From the ways we engaged on plantations and during Jim Crow\, to the ways we use interiors and say good-bye\, ‘home’ has an important lexicon in Black culture.” Zsudayka Nzinga  \nHome Coming / Home Going presents recent works by Zsudayka Nzinga that examine the diverse ways Black Americans find\, define\, and establish “home.” Nzinga’s work is grounded in social\, cultural\, and anthropological research into the history of her family\, community\, and diaspora. Combining mixed media on unstretched canvas—including acrylic\, marbling\, ink\, decorative paper\, and fabric—Nzinga explores figurative narratives of Black existence. Her intricately designed collages blend portraiture\, abstraction\, American fashion\, African textiles\, and symbols specific to Black American culture to express joy\, hope\, and the love of everyday life. \nThis exhibition is presented in conjunction with Multiplicity: Blackness in Contemporary American Collage.
