Live It Learn it

Live It Learn It envisions a day when all learners are empowered and motivated to engage with the world. In pursuit of this vision, Live It Learn It partners with schools and cultural institutions to create and deliver experiential learning opportunities for students in order to increase students’ self-efficacy, motivation, and achievement. Our work helps close an “experience gap” that contributes greatly to the achievement gap among students of different racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. Live It Learn It’s programming addresses education equity and access issues for students in Title I DC schools.

Each year, Live It Learn It serves 2,100+ 3rd-6th grade students in Title I DCPS schools. Over the course of the school year, every participating class takes part in at least two units taught directly by Live It Learn It educators. Each unit includes a pre-lesson, a field experience, and a post-lesson. Field experiences are in partnership with 20+ local cultural, historical, and environmental institutions. Live It Learn It provides all materials, coordinates scheduling with the destination, makes bus transportation arrangements, and of course, facilitates instruction. These units elicit exclamations of joy from students (“I love Live It Learn It because we are having fun but learning at the same time!”) every time. We also offer educational programming for teachers and families.
