Breaking Racial Barriers: The Story of DC’s Todd Duncan

This educational program teaches students about Todd Duncan, the first Black vocalist to sing with a major opera company and the first Porgy in Porgy and Bess. Duncan was also instrumental in desegregating audiences for Porgy and Bess performances in DC. The World Music Collective created and performed an original show highlighting Duncan’s life and contributions. To continue to teach students about Todd Duncan, this show has been adapted to bring his story directly to DC Public Schools.
