Architecture in the Schools

Architecture in Schools is the first and only program in the District that places
architects alongside teachers for an 8-week residency. During AIS, architects take students on a visual trip around their community and world, increasing their knowledge and understanding of the built environment. Architects use their knowledge and experience to work collaboratively with teachers to design a
syllabus that addresses standards and aligns with class needs.
The AIS curriculum:
Asks teachers to choose specific curriculum standards to address
Asks students questions to evaluate their learning
Uses transparent rubrics to measure their final project
Uses students’ sketchbooks as portfolios to assess their progress
