Bach in Time

Even though the music of Bach was written 300 years ago, it is as fun to listen to now as ever. It might surprise you that more people listen to Bach’s music today than in Bach’s own time! This 45-minute program explores how Bach’s music has traveled farther than we could ever imagine!

Grade level: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th
Maximum attendees: 350
Program Outline:

Day of the Program:
– WBC staff, musicians, and volunteers (if applicable) arrive at school and set up stage area. Musicians tune and warm up.
– Students arrive in performance area and settle in
– Program starts
– Program runs 45 minutes
– Q & A runs about 10 to 15 minutes (depending on questions)
– Students complete a brief survey which teachers collect and return to WBC staff/volunteers
– WBC staff/volunteers give teachers stacks of comic books for their classes
– WBC staff, musicians, and volunteers strike stage area, pack up supplies, and depart

Learning Goals/Objectives
– 4th Grade: 4.5 H2 Identify various uses of music in their daily experience and describe—characteristics that make certain music suitable for each use.
3.1 L1 Identify ascending/descending melody in selected pieces of music.
In general, we would like to provide an exciting environment in which DCPS students can engage with Bach’s music in a unique way.
