Garden Detectives: Buzzing Bees and Flowers Growing!
Students will use their senses, inquiry-based learning, and a participatory experience to learn about flowers and pollinators as well as the garden as a whole here at Tudor Place. Students will practice asking relevant questions about their observations and formulating an opinion about their experiences.
Pre-K/K: Focusing on pollinators! We explore 5.5 acres of gardens and learn about parts of a plant and the important jobs that pollinators do. This is done through physical exploration, storytime, and a game. We end the field trip with a craft—students create their own garden postcard. *Can be scaled up to 1st grade*
2nd-3rd grade: Exploring landscape design and how homes used to have both agricultural needs and art. We talk about how the garden has changed over the last 200 years. Storytime, garden exploration, and craft where students can create their own landscapes (more math based than program mentioned above).
3rd-5th grade: Soil and plant exploration; how different soils are used for different plants, landscape design, and craft time! Create your own garden using the science we talked about earlier in the program.
