Little Artists, Big Stories

Discover the magic of creativity with our storybook reading program for early learners! Through engaging stories, vibrant exhibits, and hands-on art activities, children will explore the legacy of Black arts education in Washington, DC, building curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for artistic expression. Students will enjoy a storybook reading tied to the A Bold and Beautiful Vision exhibition, explore art through close-looking, and create their own inspired masterpieces.

Grade level: PreK, K, 1st, 2nd

Program Outline:

5 mins: Arrival and entrance through Smithsonian’s security. Museum educators will greet students
20 mins: Students participate in a story book reading program led by museum educators.
10 mins: Museum Educators lead the students through a close looking routine in the gallery.
20 mins: Museum Educators lead the students through an art activity connected to the story and exhibition.
5 mins: Museum educators administer surveys and group prepares to depart the museum.
