Trees as Witness: Ancestor, Property, Archive

Explore the layered histories of DC, from the perspective of witness trees at Dumbarton Oaks Gardens. Students will tour historic trees in the gardens and consider the history a tree may have witnessed. The tour will explore the ways in which human and ecological histories intertwine, centering Indigenous & enslaved histories at the site as explored in rotating exhibitions. Participants will engage in creative reflection through a Root Cause Tree discussion and a shadowbox art making activity.
